CODES OF CONDUCT IN TOURISM AND THEIR IMPACT ON SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Codes of Conduct. Tourism is a large and complex system which, in order to achieve a long term suc¬cess, needs to implement the sustainability principles in the process of its planning and development. A significant role in creating such a development belongs to the public sector. However, as for the creation of certain measures for improvement of the behaviour of tourists and of increasing their awareness of effects that could occur in case of their inadequate and irresponsible behaviour, volun¬tary initiatives tend to have an even greater importance. This paper gives an overview of the most im¬portant voluntary initiatives and codes of conduct in tourism and discusses their impact on the be¬haviour of all participants in tourism. The focus is on the global and local voluntary initiatives concerned with the behaviour of tourists, the so-called Codes of Conduct. A significant number of these codes exist at the global and local level, but they are not unified and are often very difficult to trace. The implementation of codes of conduct is often rather difficult, which is why the application of responsible marketing becomes almost necessary. The focus of responsible marketing should not be the pure attraction of tourists to the destination, but also their sensitization to the desti¬nation, as well as minimizing the negative effects of tourism development

Ecolabelling in tourism: The disconnect between theory and practice

Each year the global tourism market records increasing numbers of international tourist arrivals, drawing attention to the negative impacts on environmental sustainability. As such, the concept of sustainability has become of paramount concern in the tourism sector over the last few decades with an emphasis on "going green" and reducing the environmental footprint associated with this growth of tourism. At the same time, tourists have become increasingly concerned about environmental issues while traveling, forcing tourism providers to carefully plan in a sustainable way. The tourism industry has accepted this trend and has applied new approaches and strategies towards environmental sustainability in their management practices. The greening of tourism began when the first ecolabel, Blue Flag, launched in France in 1985. After two years, the company expanded its activities to other European countries; it became an international ecolabel in 2001. The idea behind ecolabelling is to help tourists make informed decision about their prospective destinations. The purpose of this paper is to explore and compare the widespread ecolabelling process in the tourism industry today. Since the first ecolabel in tourism was launched, the number of ecolabels in the tourism sector has rapidly increased in number; today there are more than two hundred distinct ecolabels within the tourism industry. Unfortunately, there is no standardized set of criteria for certification relative to environmental sustainability practices. Given this practical issue within the global tourism industry, this research seeks to review whether the existing scholarship on sustainability and ecolabelling in tourism has informed the actual practice of ecolabel certification

Republika Hrvatska sa svojim očuvanim okolišem i raznolikim prirodnim ljepotama na malom prostoru posjeduje izrazitu komparativnu prednost pred ostalim turističkim destinacijama na europskom Sredozemlju. Glavni motivi dolaska turista u Hrvatsku još uvijek su "more i sunce" tj. dugačka, razvedena obala i mediteranska klima, iako Hrvatska obiluje raznolikošću prirodnih i društvenih turističkih resursa i u svom kontinentalnom dijelu. Republic of Croatia with its preserved environment has distinct advantage in comparison to all other tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. Although Croatia has various natural and social tourist resources in its continental part, the main reasons for visiting Croatia, for many people, are „blue sea and the bright sun“, as well as long well-indented coast with a specific Mediterranean climate. However, some changes in tourists\u27 needs led to changes in tourists\u27 workers opinions as they began to understand the necessity of implementation of quality in all segments of the business - particularly in the service area. This paper shows characteristics of one type of tourism – thermal spa. They are presented through the study of the quality satisfaction level with the offered services in the thermal centres Hrvatsko zagorje region: Krapinske, Tuheljske, Jezerčice and Stubičke spa. The results of the study point out very high level of respondents\u27 satisfaction with the quality of services offered in hotels, and the high level of dissatisfaction with services offered out of hotels

Ecolabels as a Tool of Sustainable Development in Tourist Destinations

    No full text
The research aimed to explore whether ecolabels could be used as innovation tools to achieve sustainable tourism development (STD) at the level of a tourist destination. The paper used results obtained by a questionnaire survey among destination management organizations (DMOs) in cities and municipalities to investigate how much ecolabels are used at the level of tourist destinations in a case study of the Republic of Croatia (in 2017 and 2021). DMOs were chosen as the subject of research due to their crucial role in the development of tourist destinations. The findings from the linear research indicate that DMOs in Croatia still do not recognize the importance and role of implementation of tourist ecolabels as an innovation tool in achieving sustainable tourism development at the destination level. The paper provides new theoretical insights into the application of ecolabels at the level of cities and municipalities as tourist destinations. Thus, it could induce future research by scholars in this field because an analysis of academic literature indicates that there is a lack of such research. Moreover, the results given by this research could provide a basis for DMOs to start to think in a different way about the application of ecolabels at the level of a tourist destination

Soon after the publication of the CEFR in 2001, the Association of Japanese Language Teachers in Europe (AJE) started a research project on the history of language teaching in Europe, carried out a survey of language policies in various European countries, and presented prospects for learning and teaching Japanese as a foreign language in Europe. The association recognizes the need to share the concepts and achievements of the CEFR.The Japan Foundation (JF), partially influenced by the CEFR, set up the JF Standard for Japanese Language Education in 2010. This standard offers tools that teachers and students can use to plan their teaching/learning through self-assessment of their language ability levels. The JF is also publishing new types of textbooks for Japanese education, emphasizing cross-cultural understanding between peoples. The Japanese Language Proficiency Test was revised in 2010 and is now ability-oriented; it is indirectly influenced by the CEFR.The authors analyzed Japanese education at the University of Ljubljana in relation to the CEFR assessment levels. At the end of their undergraduate study, students reach approximately level B1/B2 of the CEFR, and at the end of the master’s course level C1. There are difficulties in assessing the current Japanese courses using the CEFR framework due to the specific character of Japanese, particularly in relation to the script, politeness and pragmatic strategies, and students’ familiarity with current events in Japan and background knowledge of Japanese society. Nevertheless, the CEFR framework offers concrete ideas and new points of view for planning language courses, even for non-European languages. Test za preverjanje znanja japonščine so pregledali leta 2010 in njegova nova verzija pod posrednim vplivom SEJO namenja večjo pozornost dejavnostim oz. aktivnemu delovanju posameznika v jezikovnem okolju.

    A parallel-beam wavelength-dispersive X-ray emission spectrometer for high energy resolution in-air micro-PIXE analysis

A new parallel-beam wavelength dispersive (PB-WDS) X-ray emission spectrometer was constructed at the external proton beamline at the Microanalytical Centre of the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana. The spectrometer combines polycapillary X-ray optics for efficient X-ray collection with diffraction on a flat crystal analyzer and achieves energy resolution in the eV range. The whole set-up is enclosed within a He bag to be able to operate in the tender X-ray energy range. The basic design is described together with the results of characterization measurements yielding the main operation characteristics. Finally, an application for the micro-PIXE analysis of biological tissue is demonstrated exploiting both spatial and energy resolution of the new set-up
